Sheffield says: It’s Time for the Climate
Time for the Climate on 28 November was a big success – thank you! Around 400 people joined us to make their voices heard – here are the reports from the Sheffield Star and in the Dec 3rd Sheffield Telegraph.
Here in Sheffield we are joining the climate movement worldwide to say it’s time to leave the age of fossil fuels behind – with our Time for the Climate event in Tudor Square on Sat 28 November (12-4.30pm).
On Sun 29 November London will see the UK’s biggest-ever climate demonstration – the People’s March for Climate. Justice and Jobs – and we have organised coach travel from Sheffield to get you there – please book online.
Our message to our leaders is:
Floods, typhoons and droughts are already impacting many millions of people, both here and abroad. This humanitarian crisis most affects those who have done the least to create the problem, and if left unchecked it would affect us all. All over the world people are already putting into practice real solutions: public renewable energy, green infrastructure, millions of new, unionised clean jobs. But it needs to happen faster, at scale, and with people at its centre.
With such solutions in flow, we can leave the age of fossil fuels behind. Some choices we can each make on our own, but some, we as a society must make together. Hope is with the people who are already way ahead of those governments who lack the political will to act, and ahead of those corporate interests who are blocking the changes we need.
Together, we are more powerful than they could possibly imagine. Whatever happens in Paris, we can and we will build the future from here – a more just, more equitable and better world for us all.
Join us to say No to dirty energy! Yes to renewables! Climate jobs now! Justice for people!
On Saturday 28 November (in the afternoon) there will be a big and beautiful event in Sheffield city centre, to let the COP21 negotiators know we are watching them.
On Sunday 29 November we’ll be joining the People’s March for Climate, Jobs and Justice in London.
On Saturday 12 December in Paris, after the climate talks finish, join Global Justice Now on ‘the road through Paris’ and the first step to an escalation of climate action in 2016…
