Take part in the Climate Cake Off: no baked alaska thank you!
Sheffield Climate Alliance is organising The Climate Cake Off as part of #TimeForTheClimate on Saturday 28 November. We’re delighted that local Bake Off star Howard Middleton will be bringing his experience to judge the entries together with Paul Blomfield MP for Sheffield Central (did you know he had a sweet tooth?) and Julia Armstrong, the Star journalist, currently the Entertainments Writer but with a foodie history. Let’s give her something to write about!
The Climate Cake Off is a chance for bakers young and old, novice and experienced, to show our political leaders that we care passionately about people and the planet, and we demand that they make decisions that will bring about real change at the Paris talks.
Where can we see the cakes?
Cakes will be on display to the public to admire and eat from 2.30. They will be in the Upper Chapel on Surrey Street (look for the courtyard at the front).
How do I enter?
There are 2 classes – for children up to the age of 12, and for people aged 12 and over. Entries can be either cakes up to 16” in diameter of any shape and height, or a plate of 6 items, such as biscuits or muffin (they don’t have to be 6 of the same items). Competitors will need to bring their climate cake creations, together with the list of ingredients, to the Upper Chapel on Sat 28 November between 12 noon and 12.45 pm.
Judges are looking for entries which wow eaters with their taste and looks and which demonstrate that “it’s time for the climate”. Winners will be announced just after 2pm on the day. The judges’ decision is final.
