South Yorkshire Pension Fund update

Hi, a quick update on where we are in our discussions with South Yorkshire Pension Authority (SYPA).

We‘ve received a reply (opens in new window) from South Yorkshire Pension Authority in response to our petition and presentation to the Board meeting.  However, we‘re disappointed by this response which is from the fund manager who was not present at the meeting and does not, we feel, address the points presented or the wishes of those who signed the petition.  For those of us who attended the SYPA Annual Fund Meeting in November, this was just a repetition of what he said at that meeting.

We are in the process of drafting a response to this letter which will be sent to the fund manager and circulated to all board members.  Details of the letter will also be posted here.  We are confident that we can keep divestment on the agenda of SYPA, particularly in light of the recent decision of the University of Sheffield to divest from fossil fuels (opens in new window).

We are still collecting signatures online so please sign (opens in new tab) if you have a pension managed by SYPA. We need to keep the pressure up.

Also, if you would like to get actively involved with our divestment campaign please contact us. We’re really keen to develop links with people and campaigns in Doncaster, Barnsley and Rotherham.
