Rise of the Climate Pesterers…

Sheffield Council has just had an ‘all out’ election, so we thought it was a good time to build a relationship with all those fresh new, and freshly re-elected old, Councillors. Sometimes they don’t think they can do much, and sometimes they complain that no-one writes to them about climate change –  so we are building a team of Climate Pesterers to remind them that the public wants them to take action!

Sheffield Climate Alliance now have 41 letters to deliver to 29 Councillors (out of the 84), and we have coverage of more than half of the city’s wards. A diverse bunch of people have written to Labour, Lib Dem, Green and UKIP councillors – it is a great result!
If you’d like to join the team, here are the remaining councillors that could do with a letter. If you need to check which ward you are in, or your Councillors’ names, you can find out from the Write to Them website.
Some councillors still need letters in:
Burngreave – Talib Hussain and Mark Jones
City – Douglas Johnson
Ecclesall – Shaffaq Mohammed
Graves Park – Sue Auckland and Steve Ayris
Hillsborough – George Lindars-Hammond and Josie Paszek
Manor Castle – Terry Fox and Lisa Baines
Stannington – David Baker and Vickie Priestley
Stocksbridge – Richard Crowther (Lab) and Jack Clarkson (UKIP)
West Ecclesfield – Zoe Sykes (Lab) and John Booker (UKIP)
All councillors still need letters in:
Beauchief and Greenhill, Beighton, Birley, Darnall, Dore and Totley, East Ecclesfield, Firth Park, Mosborough, Park and Arbourthorne, Richmond, Shiregreen and Brightside, Southey, Woodhouse.
We’ve covered all councillors in Broomhill and Sharrow Vale, Crookes and Crosspool, Fulwood, Gleadless Valley, Nether Edge and Sharrow, and Walkley – hooray!
The template letter is here. If you send a letter, please contact us with your name, your email address, your postcode and which Councillor you wrote to – thanks!
We are looking forward to a year of climate pestering! You may also like to know that the Climate Coalition are organising a mass lobby of MPs in October – SCA is collaborating with Christian Aid, CAFOD, and Hope for the Future to make that very big in Sheffield and South Yorkshire – read about it here and get in touch if you would like to be actively involved in your constituency.
