Folk Against Fracking…

Folk against Fracking is a great free music event coming up on Sunday 27 November, raising funds for Sheffield against Fracking at Shakespeare’s pub, Gibraltar St from 3pm to 10pm.

It’s also a state of mind… in our region, folk are against fracking – it’s becoming very clear as the frackers come closer! Here’s a round-up of recent developments:

In Misson, just across the border in Nottinghamshire, permission has been given for 2 exploratory shale gas wells. You can read all about local concerns and see the response of IGas (the developer) here and see news coverage here.

All eyes are still on Nottinghamshire, where another planning decision will be made in December about an exploratory borehole at Tinker Lane. Watch out for more news from Frack Free South Yorkshire or on Drill or Drop.

On the borders of Sheffield, Rotherham and Derbyshire, developers are seeking permission from landowners to undertake seismic testing. Many landowners are refusing, and new local anti-fracking groups have formed in Mosborough, Eckington, Dronfield and Clowne! Check the latest on the Sheffield against Fracking Facebook page.

If you want to skill up on the planning system and how to useit to fight fracking, there’s a great training opportunity on 3 December in Cheshire with FoE.
