The Time is Now!

On Wednesday, thousands of constituents descended on Westminster to take part in a mass lobby of MPs about climate change. I had opted to travel by National Express and was pleasantly surprised by the relative luxury of the current fleet of coaches!

All MPs were invited to attend no matter what their stance is on the issue and there was a strong contingent from Sheffield ready to tackle their MPs on the subject.

Of the MPs I listened to or spoke to, all were sympathetic to what we had to say and saw climate change as a real issue.

Paul Blomfield, the MP for Sheffield Central, was in a debate during the afternoon but still managed to make time to come and talk to his constituents.

The afternoon was also an opportunity to meet old friends from the Fossil Free movement and to make new acquaintances in the fight to raise awareness and demand action on climate change.

On my way back to the coach I passed a plaque on the wall denoting the site of the world’s first ever public gasworks, something that would probably have been seen as a wonderful new invention. It’s a reminder of how quickly the world has changed in the last 200 years, and, hopefully, how it continues to change.
